During my years at the Academy, I had, thanks to the enlightening guidance of
Zeki Faik İzer, a great love of the Italian primitives and of Ingres. Our
mentor's primary aim was to protect us from all the obstacles which hem round
spareness of form. Meanwhile I was executing a rapid chronological transit
which brought me at the end of my student years to Cubism and the most recent
stages of western art.
